Your business or domain name can affect your website ranking
For sure your business or domain name can affect your website ranking on Google. You might be asking the question HOW? I'll share with you from experiences. Before i share my experiences, i've got words for you. Back in the 90's and early 2000 people liked considering funky and appealing names in giving their business or domain a name. I have also found out lately that people still consider these funky domain and business names, i really don't blame them because they say; "Knowledge is power". Its probably because they do not know the implication of domain names in search engine ranking.
The relevance of keywords cannot be under estimated in giving your business or domain a name. There is a lot of competition on Google, so domain names that contain relevant keywords will be easily found and will also rank in no time because people actually use a part of these keywords for search queries.
The first step in choosing a domain name is to do a keyword research using keyword tool on adword. There are also other keyword research softwares, but the most efficient is Google keyword tool on adwords. The next step is to add one of the popular keywords researched to your business name or domain name, then use this combination to search for available domain names on host providers.
Now let me share my experience on how a domain name affected my pagerank and business.
I started my internet business as a web designer 4 years ago with a funky name; VGLOBE. Then i knew a little about SEO, but did not know how it affects my business. I never got any business with this name because it was very search engine unfriendly. When i started SEO a year later, I realized my mistakes and then changed the business name to BUDGET WEB MARKETERS. In less than 2months of name change i got 2 clients. Why? Its simple; SEO + search engine friendly name= good results.
Same thing happened to one of my clients too. He noticed a big progress when he changed the name of his business and domain. He got found easily and by the time i did his SEO, he started getting loads of traffic to his website. This is the interesting part; SEO is made easier when a domain name is search engine friendly.
So when choosing a business name, it is advisable to contact seo experts or services for advice.
In summary;

Getting your website on 1st page of Google
SEO goes this way; "Give the search engine the best and get the best". SEO process definitely involves intense work in any way you do it. But what happens to the intense work you do? Does it work out well? Does your many hours of link building and article writing give you your desired ranking? I have seen a lot of people do SEO and fail to achieve their desired results. SEO normally takes 3months at most to start seeing results but I'll like to share with you on how i got my clients website on page 1 of Google in 1 week.
Bear it in mind, i did lots of work in that one week, but SEO success is not equal to how intense your work is or how many links or articles you are building. Here are some tips on how i achieved this wonderful result in 1 week:
Bear it in mind, i did lots of work in that one week, but SEO success is not equal to how intense your work is or how many links or articles you are building. Here are some tips on how i achieved this wonderful result in 1 week:
- Writing meta tags: Make sure your website title is not unnecessarily long, make sure the most relevant keywords to the business or website are included in the title or meta keywords, Keep your meta keyword and description as brief as possible, don't muck around trying to be too smart. search engines don't like that.
- Site map: It is very important for every website to have a sitemap as it helps the search engine to crawl the pages on your website and display them accordingly in search results.
- Quality of link building and articles: Google search engine values real contents and quality of links. How good are the websites pointing to your own url or website in terms of page rank? Are they of high or low page ranks? Are your article websites or blogs of high page ranks? You have got to ask yourself this questions. Don't just build links from any website or post articles on any website. Google still values high page ranks and quality of websites. You are better of having 20 high quality links to your website than 100 low quality links.
- Relevance: Of what relevance or importance are the websites pointing to your own url to your website. Are they websites related to your own website? Do they have contents related to what you have on your website? Google value relevance. Its in fact one of the major keys. Example; do not post a food related business on car related website.
- Website verification: Get your website verified on Google using Google webmaster tool, verify your website on Bing and Alexa Claiming your website on Alexa not only help you to track your website performance, but gives you a quality backlink.
- Facebook and twitter: These are the two most popular websites on the internet. Apart from getting followers and likes, they automatically llink to your website in search engines.
